Luuk van den Bosch named Dutch Dentist of the Year 2026
The awards highlight two practical models: youth-focused preventive outreach in schools and free care for low-income patients by retired dentists.
Luuk van den Bosch, owner of Mondzorg Veenendaal, has been named Tandarts van het Jaar 2026 at the Apollonia Awards, organised by the KNMT. The award recognises his work in preventive dental care for children, including interactive brushing lessons at schools and a successful attempt to break the Dutch record for simultaneous toothbrushing. The jury described him as entrepreneurially minded and socially engaged, noting that he actively encourages other young dentists to start their own practices. His position is that entrepreneurship is a core part of sustainable dental care, not a secondary concern. The KNMT Mondzorg Award for best social initiative went to Bij Nader Inzien, a practice in Havelte, Drenthe, where semi-retired and retired dentists provide free, structural dental care to low-income families. The jury noted this approach addresses both financial barriers to dental access and the broader dentist shortage, even if on a limited scale. Marlisa van den Bergh, a 23-year-old dental student at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, received the title of Tandheelkundestudent van het Jaar for her volunteer work providing oral care for people with addiction and for homeless individuals, as well as running a half marathon to raise funds for these causes.
